Why is the media trying so hard to sell Mitt Romney as a viable candidate.?

I live in a generally conservative city and to date I haven't seen any one who even tangentially supports the Romney campaign and I know a lot of ppl here!!! It seems that the media Msnbc, cnn, fox especially have decided to anoint Romney as the Republican nominee. Truth is he is really just an average candidate just like a lot of the candidates out there
