How to prevent osgood schlatters?

I got osgood schlatters about 5 or 6 years ago when I did Irish dancing but it went away after a few months once I'd seen the physiotherapist and was told to take it easy. I haven't been bothered by it since, until now. I've taken up running and can feel the pain in my knee. As of right now it's not too painful but I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent it getting any worse (I don't want to stop running, I'm training for a 10K) or should I go back to physio?

Hamstring strain or just soreness?

I've had minor hamstring problems which started around a year ago with a slight strain. I had physio and was diagnosed with a muscle weakness in the hamstrings(both)/lower back. Apart from occasionally feeling my hamstrings slightly when running, I haven't had any problems for months. Except I pulled up really sore from a soccer match last night (everywhere, but particularly hamstrings) and I was just wondering how you determine whether you have a strain or if it's just general soreness. It feels painful & vulnerable in both my hamstrings when I move my lower leg in either direction. Thanks!

Severe Ankle Pain... What do I do?

I was in gym cl almost a week ago and collided with someone and my ankle twisted. I'm not sure exactly which direction it rolled/twisted but i'm in a lot of pain mostly located on the lateral side of my ankle. I am now able to move my ankle in all sorts of new ways. I went to see a doctor and she was a complete idiot and seemed to think the pain was completely unrelated to the collision, although it started hurting the very same instant as the collision. I went to physio and she seems to think its a couple stretched ligaments and a minor high ankle sprain. I have been walking on it but it becomes increasingly worse and the pain is becoming unbearable. I have had Grade 1 sprains in the past and this is much worse! Should I get a second opinion or leave it. I don't know how else I will get around other than walking if i don't have anything to use. I take anti-inflammatories for arthritis but it has still swelled, although not tremendously but enough to notice by looking at it. it is slightly bruised and i got x-rays and nothing is broken. I'm a soccer player with tryouts starting in the next few days. I also have ultimate Frisbee tryouts beginning in a week. I am currently playing rugby although I stopped since I hurt my ankle but we have some important games coming up, I want the fastest recovery possible. If you have any ideas of what I should do PLEASE let me know. I'm in a lot of pain and need relief fast, it seems like walking is only making it worse. For school, all of my cles are perfectly planned to be on opposite floors and clrooms of the school.

Hi guys, I suffered a broken ankle during a rugby game. It was one of those horror injuries where my ankle was bent in the opposite direction. I've been in a cast and on crutches for just over a month now, and will have my knee cast taken off and start physio next week. I moved them in myself with my uncles approval hoping for the best. But time went by and they began to show their true colors. Having physio on hip what to expect and wear!?

Wear loose-fitting clothes such as wind shorts or warm-ups. Underwear is fine, and a sports bra (if needed) with a comfortable top such as a t-shirt or pullover would be appropriate. Nothing too warm because you'll be working and exercising and you will probably perspire. Hydrate before and re-hydrate after with water. If you are taking pain meds, take an hour before the physical therapy. The therapists will show and have you do warm up and stretching exercises. Most locations in the US give handouts so that you can do the stretches at home. The harder you work, the more benefit you'll receive from the PT. Good luck with your hip!

Can this hurt my baby?

I am 36 weeks pregnant and last night we made some potato cerole which had sour cream in it. I was told if you heat up sour cream it can make you sick. But I myself have eaten that before and have not gotten sick from it. Today I ate some of the leftovers and called my dr.s before I ate it to make sure it was ok. She said as long as it wasn't left out for a few hours before getting put back in the fridge it would be fine. So I ate a small plate. Do you think it should be fine? Another possiblity is an injury to the navicular or talus bones, if you have a talus injury, then your ankle will swell and the shin takes more stress than usual. Try another doctor ( preferably sports med) and get an m.r.I or something.

How long does a dislocated knee cap take to heal before i can do sport again?

i dislocated it about a week ago and the doctor said that i need to complete 3-6 months of physio-therapy. There is basically no pain at all when i move it or walk on it. It only hurts when i bump it or push on it. Sometimes it hurts when i straighten my leg but not all the time. I just want to know how long it will be before i can do sport again, i do sports aerobics which includes a lot of jumping and flexibility.

My parents recommended that i go to doctors or try those mage places. My older brother and dad has had the same problem ever since they were around 10. They reckon its a genetic thing with the males in our family. You should ask anyone else in your family if they had the same problems and what theyve tried out to fix it. I did. Help! I'm in constant pain with back and hips.?

I took up Zumba in January and after 6 weeks I had to give up, as lesson progressed my back and hips would slowly seize up and pain would radiate down my leg (sciatica - i've had before). The final straw came when on the 6th week i couldn't lift my toes off the floor during the cool down. I couldn't sleep on right side for hip pain, then it spread to left and lower back. Now 6 months on, pain is constant. Popping anti-inflamitories and pain killers and still not sleeping. My back and hips are sore to the touch but also sore inside. Sometimes have pain in pelvis area and down leg into foot. Have had physio and chiropractor work on me but nothing has helped. Pins and needles and numbness now started. What is it?? Getting really down now, MRI booked for this week but know that results will take a while. Anyone got any ideas - i'm desperate.

Pain and tingling in my right arm?

Wondered if anyone could help me with a little more info on maybe what to expect. In January of this year I started with a burning sensation in my right arm pit, I went to the docs and he thought it was maybe the start of shingles a rash never came and the pain never left. I went back to the docs because the pain was now all down my right arm and tingling in my fingers also my right hand goes dark purple if I try to exert it. Back Pain sciatic Bulged Disc?

I have a herniated disc sending pain down my sciatic nerve. I can't sit or stand. I have seen DR's had xray's, CT's & MRI's. I've been to Physio & Chiro & had cortisone. Nothing has helped. I can't get surgery as I don't have private health insurance, they won't see you. Now it is a preexisting condition. the burst disc is in L5/S1. You have tendons that tightened up in your legs as well, it's the muscles reactions to trauma to them. You will have the tightness and pains until they get freed up for you. the trouble is most therapists don't know how to free them up so you go in with pain and they help you make the pain worse by doing 'therapy' on you but they don't free up what is causing the pain in the first place. Finding one who can free them up for you would do you more good than the leg strengthening they will make you do. It's just finding the one who can help you that is the problem. Just wanted to give you a heads up as to why therapy would take so long, they aren't doing the right thing.

My mare plants her feet and refuses to go forward?

I have a 13 year old mare that I have owned since she was 5. She was green broke when I got her, so I worked with her and an instructor to teach her training level dressage. She really did well. She is the type horse that needs to be worked 4-5 times per week. After a couple of years, I put a western saddle on her and we rode miles of trails together for the next couple of years. Then another mare had a foal and she seemed to get jealous. It really changed her. The foal would call out to her when we went to leave the property and she began refusing to leave the property. Around the same time, I got a job where I traveled a great deal and could not devote 5 rides a week to her. When I would ride her, she would fight me leaving the property as though she was barn sour. i am an experienced rider, I know how to cue her to move forward, but she refused. If I tapped her with the crop, she still would not move. If I turned her to move her feet, she would back up and then abruptly stop. Very frustrating!!! But eventually, something would "click" in her mind and she would take off at a trot and we would have a great ride. Then, last year, another foal was born and she got jealous again. She bonds to those babies! I could not get her to leave the property with me on her back. I would then take her to the equestrian park, lunge her and then mount; the fight would start all over. Today, I took her to the park and she planted her feet and simply refused. There was another rider there that was willing to ride with us, but that meant nothing to her. I put spurs on and she did work out in the arena, but the minute we left the arena and headed for home, she refused to move forward again. I tried and tried. I should note that I was riding her with a rope halter. She has been very responsive in the past and I can ride her at any gait with either a bridle or a halter. I am so very frustrated and I really believe that there is some tie to the foals, what do you think? I love this mare (She is a maiden mare) but I am beyond frustrated with her at this point. Shin splints or stress fracture?

So I'm headed to a physio and a doctor next week, but I hate waiting that long to figure things out. I was running last week, and all was fine (I have a history of mild shin splints), but I went running yesterday and didn't finish because of shin pain in one leg. It felt fine when the foot was in contact with the ground, but every time I lifted it, it hurt. So I stopped, limped for a few minutes, but then walked normally. It felt ok by the time I got home, I've been icing like a maniac since. There is a definite spot of mild pain (like a 2-3 on a 10 point scale where 10 is the worse) I can dig my thumb into so that made me think stress fracture. But it generally feels ok. Stairs are fine, the jump test causes that same dull pain as when I dig my thumb into my shin. I'm taking time off running for now, but I'm just wondering what others think.

Does anyone have a cure for tendonitis?

I have been suffering with tendonitis in both heels for several months, the pain is so severe, sometimes I cant even walk, Ive been to the doctors and got pain killers (no use) ive been to NHS Physio but they just give me excercises and no treatment, I apply ice packs but that just hides the pain for a short while, does anyone know a cure for the problem, I would be really greatful

Just started Bucking and rearing! Help?

I bought my 14.2 STB last year, initially he bucked me off twice, after having a master saddle fitter out he told me the prev saddle didn't fit so I put it down to that. I bought a new professionally fitted saddle and he seemed happier. I was never able to mount from the ground with this saddle as it would slip round. I dosnt slip much while on board though. A month ago I had saddle and back checked by a Physio as he seemed a little twitchy. All was fine. Since then we have done miles of great rides, no issues. When I tighten his girth (slowly he moves his legs square as is bracing himself and rounds his back as if gathering him self up. I stretch his legs out before mounting. Yesterday I got on (friend holding stirrup) and he was fine... Until I asked him to walk, he rounded his back and hopped springing around until I came off, he carried on doing this after I was off. I lunged him and put it down to the wind. �Today I tacked up and lunged him, he was fine to lunge, I got on, same as the day before he stood fine, as soon as I asked him to walk he reared then bucked me off, today I ended up�In A&E. I don't think he is napping as he usually likes to go out and we were in company both times. Today after untacking Hugo he adjusted his legs and dropped to have a wee, he only managed to squeeze a little out, about a cup full! I will be calling the vet in the morning but would appreciate any ideas or similar experiences. The only thing I changed was I dropped his cheekpeices one hole each side. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Can't sleep due to intense pain and I don't know what to do?

I had knee surgery 2.5 months ago. I am now walking and doing Physio 2-3 times per week as stated by my doctor. I have been doing physio for 4 weeks and have made quite a bit of progress but no where near perfect, my quad is still really weak. A worse problem is I have problems sleeping cause I can't get comfortable. My hip and knee hurt. I think my hip hurts because it does a lot of work trying to get my leg to do what its supposed to. I have tried putting a pillow between my legs but it just presses on the surgery site. I have tried laying flat on my back but my hip and knee start hurting, rolling on my side (hip hurts worse), etc. I can't seem to find a good position. Then you would say to take pain meds...I work at a place where people are randomly tested and they don't like you to have pain pills in your system...tyelnol or aspirin is fine but not hydrocodone or narcotics. Its a fireable offense. Next you would say to ask my doctor about it. I have told him and he says sure it hurts and sure its taking you longer to get better...so just keep doing Physio and take some pain pills. So I am sort of in a loop hole. I am curious if there are any ideas on sleeping....is there a comfy way to sleep? Anything I could do during the day? I just need ideas on what to do. I am currently running on 4 hours of sleep and I have a long day ahead of me. Please help. (26 years old, Female, 155 lbs, perfect health - had my wellness check-up yesterday and my cholesterol is low and all other blood work was top notch, 108/70 blood pressure)

Looking to buy a house, how long should I wait?

There is a house for sale down the road from me. The owner of the house is a very good friend and offered to "tote the note" for me. This was 6 months ago, and he also wanted 3,000 down, which I didn't have, so I ped up the offer. Well, a month ago, the house hadn't sold, so I went back to the man and offered him 1,000 down and would put new windows in the house. i am a 31 year old male, i sprained my ankle during april 2010 due to missing the step at a front door of a house, i went side ways on my left ankle, it was quite painful, i noticed my whole left leg got quite hot for a few minutes and i was in a bit of shock. anyway this happened on a saturday evening i was working, so i put ice on the ankle when i got home put maybe not for long enough i don't know. i also went to the cinema later that evening which was probably not a good idea. on the monday morning i went to the doctor she looked at my ankle done all the examinations she had my ankle bandaged and told me when i go home sit back put my foot up high to let the fluid drain out of my ankle and to take tablets such as neurofen to reduce the swelling. that was fine i did all that for 2 weeks i am now out of work because i was let go june 2010 due to staff cutbacks. up to lately my ankle was fine i do play some basketball with a club i was playing that with no problems but then suddenly within the last few weeks my ankle started to swell and pain me again, but this time i also noticed my left leg getting weak and getting stiff, this has been happening on and off for the past number of weeks. could it be because i never received physio therapy by my doctor?????? i also wore a support stocking for a couple of weeks.

Dislocating knee cap"s !!!?

I am 14 and for about a year and a half I have had dislocating knee caps. I have been taught how to put them in myself at physio, however it's very painful, I have other joint and bone problems aswell and am under going tests to see if it may be artharitas, cancer, musculardisk malformation and scoliosis of the mestra. I am having physio for the lee cap which I have had twice before however so far hasn't worked they said if it doesn't stop in the next 4 weeks after intense physsio I will have to have the oporation to replace my kneecap cartalige for it Has been warn thin from dislocating so often. Because I learnt how to replace it I don't have to go to hospital like others however I cannot do certain sport. Does anyone no any good ways to try and jeep the kneecaps in. I have tried a brace and a metal implanted brace(had to have op for this one) but neither have worked. Any ideas to strengthen the knee will be appreciated thankyou :)

This medicine was initially marketed for seizures. Some secondary uses include treatment for neuropathy or nerve pain. It will cause "all" of your aforementioned side effects. Your dose is relatively low but effects vary person to person. Also the withdrawal symptoms can be severe. It is not wise to increase dosing and stopping abruptly. I had some unpleasant effects and had to get off this after 6-9 months. If it has not worked after a month or so it probably will not.

What does whipping cream look like?

I went to the store today in search of ingredients for homemade lasagna alfredo. I make the sauce homemade with whipping cream. The store had it for 1/2 off because it expires tomorrow, good deal I thought considering I was making it for dinner tonight. So i had 2 slipped disks and "neural" damage in my back since i was 16 after being aulted by a 23 year old man. I was told by neurologists that it would take 3 months to heal.After 3 and a half years with multiple doctors bills, neurologists, mri's painkiller pillaties and physio therapy... nothing if not the pain is worse. My Back is constantly aching i get shooting pains, some days i literally cant hold my neck up due to the pain surrounding the area. Is it safe to eat shrimp with the mud vain still in it?

When I buy shrimp I usually buy it raw uncooked with the shell on so I can peal them and de-vain them before I cook them? I was always told to remove the mud vein because its Shrimp SH*T.. If you haven't already buy a maternity support belt. They work wonders even though they can be expensive. I wouldn't pick up your son anymore at this point in pregnancy I know it is hard not to, but it will benefit you now and also when the baby comes and you can't pick him up all of the time. If you are having the pain that bad you should call the midwife and she can schedule you an appointment and to look into what is going on thats her job & if it is varicose veins in the pelvis she can give you something for that. I hope your pain eases up and you can enjoy the end of your pregnancy.

Old injury...re-occurring problems?

Ok, so in September 2009 i got my bike handlebar 8 inches down my thigh after hitting a pot hole, i just skimmed my artery and cut through my nerves so im left with no feeling in my thigh, anyway, about 1 month after the injury i was having problems with the muscle spasming and hurting, i was then put through to physio where they put me on crutches for 2 weeks. I had physio for another 2 months and then that was it...however, now, 2 years after the incident, im having the same problems starting again, but can they be related to the injury after 2 years?? I am also very sporty so im not sure...any info is appreciated :)

I broke mine 2 an bit years ago. The repair was 3 screws. The surgeon signed me off 100% happy with the blood flow, the bone etc etc. I explained I had had a slight irritation, and looking again at the latest X Ray he said that one of the screws was slightly high but no worries we can always take it out, My Q is ?, what is the procedure, and how long off work.. crutches again etc.... When a horse is about to rear, don't let them stop! Keep making them go foreword and keep them off balance like turning their head to the side. I would see an orthopedic dr. if you haven't. I had patellofemoral syndrome diagnosed by an orthopedic dr. a long time ago and needed physical therapy, taping of the knee cap to help it move back into place and then surgery. You may just need to take a break from martial arts.

I'm 18. I am currently attending a community college. I'm an engineering science major. I am taking two summer courses. I recently finished one and am starting the next one in a few weeks. I've never had a job before and I feel that I don't have the time for one. Every semester I am busy with a lot of homework, focused on studying and maintaining a 3.8-4.0 GPA. I become stressed easily as well! School is my priority. People always tell me that my mentality should stay that way. I agree but I feel a little self conscious about not having a part time job. My parents want me to focus on school work as well. I try to help my parents save up money by taking public transportation to school, buying cheap clothing, saving electricity, and even trying to sell my old textbooks. I also try to show my gratitude by helping around the house or running errands whenever I can. The only work experience I have is community service.... Is a working a part time job important during the college years?

you need to start eating the whole egg, it is proven that there is no benefit to eating only the whites... also granola bars have little nutritional value..... but really you should be fine try to only drink water because that is the healthiest.... and if you eat alot of proteins you will stay slim and healthy.

My mother ped away about 8 months ago, she was the only parent in our lives (sister, brother and myself.) She was a single parent the whole, my sister and brother have father, but aren't consistent and I have never met my father at all in my life, so to lose my mother was extremly devestating. :'( Anyway, so my older brother and his girlfriend who are 4-5 years old than me and also my younger sister who is 5 years younger than me chose to stay all together in the house. My sister's dad chose to accompany us for a while until things went sour between him and my older brother. So my sister and her father don't live with us anymore. My brother and his girlfriend recently gave birth to my nephew who is 3 months. Their relationship has a huge reputation for having terrible problems. It's been off and on, mainly because the lack of care my brother seems to have about anything besides himself. :( Well yesterday, they seperated for good and she no longer lives with us. This is because she found a GREAT job for my brother on Craigslist, got an interview, bought him clothes for the actual interview and he was hired about a couple days later. The job paid $2,000/month! Which was great. But, he quit his job after two days because he didn't like the fact that the job paid every 30 days and not every week or every other week. She chose to left because he only looked out for himself knowing we need help with bills, food and everything. Times have become really hard. I am looking for a job, but at the time I get survial soical security benefits from my mother's ping. I help pay a couple of bills and any food we need. Now, that she gone, I'm not sure what to do. My brother has depended on her for everything, but I feel like he going to be bottom feeding off of me... driving him places, pay for this, pay for that, clean (which he doesn't do any of that). I was really close to his girlfriend and also my little nephew and now that they are both gone, the house just isn't a home anymore. I'm starting to slip into depression yet again. I'm stressed about school, now there are more worries at home. Why would he leave me with all of this? He still doesn't seem to care and doesn't even try to stand on his own feet, that's why she left him because she wants him to LEARN to do so... but I see no motivation. We have $11,000 in property taxes and it's impossible for us to pay it all, so the home I have known half of my life will be gone soon :( *sigh*, I just don't know what to do. All my brother does is invite friends over, smoke, drink, play video games. He is 22 years old. It doesn't even seem to phase him that his SON is no longer living with him nor his girlfriend. Our house in no longer a home and it's draining. So many things have gone wrong ever since my mother has ped and I always seem to be caught in the middle. PLEASE HELP!!!!

My oregano tastes "sour"?

I have had an oregano plant and it has taken off nicely, however, i have found the leaves are rather sour or really tart. I really cannot tell because its definitely not how it should taste. When i first got the plants it was oregano, i checked, and it tasted like it. I've taken care of it and pruned it and its not flowering. -_- help? any ways to fix this or should i just pull it and get new?

How to be less of a loser?

So I'm a 16 year old girl. I am unattractice, antisocial, unintelligent, and untalented. I don't do anything well. Meanwhile I look around my life (and my school) and I see people kids my age who are on television, selling a lot of records, or doing something amazing in the clroom. I am not exaggerating either. These are the kids I have to compete with and I am a baseline failure. I don't know what to do! I want to be something but I am so behind. Please help! Meniscus question and surgery..?

I partially tore my meniscus a while back (about 3-4 months ago) and my doctor recommended physio and no surgery to heal it. my doctor said that it could even take 6 months to a whole year for it to heal. Is this complete bullshit or is this true? or would surgery be better for me? I have a little bit of a locked knee as well. (can't straighten fully but very close).

No Physical Therapy should ever hurt but at first it will be uncomfortable. If you feel pain then tell them to stop. You will probably do some stretching exercises. Hot Packs for 20 minutes, local maging of the knees and occasional they use electricity therapy. They use small amount of current to stimuli the blood circulation and later on you will work with the large rubber bands to do resistance training. On your first visit they will be an evaluaton made and they will tell you what they are going to do for you. Nothing to be scare of.

What is causing my back to ache?

I have been suffering with a low back ache since i was 6-7 years old. I am now 30. The ache is constantly there. Since I have had my child (in 2004) I have been experiencing what some people have described as sciatica. I have the back ache, and now and again, I will get a sharp pain in my ock. This usually happens when I am stood for a while. The back ache never seems to go. My GP said for me to contact Physio Direct. What could be causing this long term cronic back ache?

I've lost my confidence in horse riding - help!?

as i am typing this i am leg in bed with a broken leg and a cast right up to my bum! and this was a horse related accident, at first i thought i would be scared to get back on when im better but thinking about it again i miss riding so much and it seems like forever. do what you heart tells you to do, like if you just enjoy the company of horses then thats fine but if your mind is always thinking 'i want to get on' as soon as you see a horse then get back on board, the thing with horses is they rely a lot on your confidence, they can feel when your scared and they often get scared too. Just start with the basics (walking, trotting) with someone on the ground and then when you feel more confident have someone ride with you you'll soon gain your confidence back and think what the heck was i thinking this is great! hope this helps :D

Being girls, we tend to have crushes a lot. It's natural, but in the end our parents DO know what is best. Sometimes you have to do what will make and keep your parents happy because if you start dating someone and they end up not liking him because of your decision then you have a relationship that isn't the best it could be. It's so much nicer to be in a relationship with someone who your parents like, and it's best to maintain a healthy relationship with your parents and family first. Went docs last year because I had a "hump" back as my dad said. He refered me to see a specialist and she said it was a lack of calcium when I had a major growth spurt. She said physio will work so I went. Now my back isn't any better. It not painful only when I lie down but it's more of a confidence thing. Advice for knee injury?

I landed on my knee when tackled in rugby with no twisting just straight up impact. Thought it was just a dead leg but it was swollen for weeks (apparently synovial fluid). Saw a Physio who said it might be a bruised bone and did ultrasound etc. But it's still not right and I can't put any pressure on it or bend it fully although movement is decent and I can jog/ run lightly and usually I can't even feel it, just certain movements feel bad. Do I just wait and rest it? I'm currently missing sport because of it so any advice would be much appreciated.

If you have mis alignments in the foot, pelvis, lower spine they need to be corrected along with exercise and stretching. You can exercise forever and the use of orthotics will only support the position of the bones in the feet/ankles. If they are misaligned (subluxed) the orthotics will never correct the misalignment. The combination of misalignment in the foot and the spine/pelvis is probably causing your knee pain barring any significant knee derangement. Even if there is derangement it will only get worse if ankle and spine/pelvis alignment /function are not corrected. My advice; see a chiropractor that deals with evaluation of these areas as well as manipulation to the spine and especially the foot/ankle. Sometimes even the Tibia or Femur can misalign with rotational torsion which is a response to ankle/foot misaligned bones (usually the calcaneus or talus bones)
